The Community Garden Sakhe is located at a primary school and used to have a container, which gave shelter during hot and windy, and also during cold and wet days. In 2002 a big truck came, during daytime, and picked up the container, lifted it over the fence and drove off. People were watching it, but thought it would be a relocation, ordered by the school or municipality. But later everybody found out: the container and the things inside were stolen.
The garden Sakhe is contracted to deliver vegetables each Tuesday to Harvest of Hope and has been a supplier to HoH since it started in February 2008. The three men working on it decided to save some of the money they get from selling to HoH and locally, to build a new shack for their work-breaks, meetings and tools. In September 2008 enough money was saved, and the material was bought for R2,500 (~£170, €215, $300) to build this shack. The men are very happy about the market HoH offers them, and the decision they made to save the money for this purpose.
