In order to improve Abalimi's practice and delivery, appropriate empirical research and monitoring & evaluation is carried out. Floral research is one example, where a study is being undertaken of all the indigenous plants growing at schools in Khayelitsha, with the view of establishing mini-conservation areas within suitable schools.
A teacher inspects the Euriocephalus (Wild Rosemary), which was planted at their school by Abalimi. This was one of the schools involved in the research project done to establish the types and condition of natural flora growing in schools in Khayelitsha.
